Innocence Project(s)
16 years ago, Barry C. Scheck and Peter J.
Neufeld started the Innocence Project affiliated with the
Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University
to assist those wrongfully convicted of a crime through retesting of DNA
evidence. They also fight to bring about reforms of the criminal
justice system to try and prevent those innocent of a crime from being
convicted in the future. For more information on the national
Innocence Project please visit

As of July 7, 2008 there have been 218 people exonerated through the various
Innocence Projects at the state and national level. Some states have
even gone so far as to put a moratorium on executions because of the number
of death row inmates being found innocent of the crime in which they were
convicted of through the Innocence Projects.
